CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

The process itself aims to alter our state of consciousness in a way that relaxes the conscious part of the mind while simultaneously stimulating and focussing the subconscious part. This heightened state of awareness - reached using skilled relaxation techniques - allows the therapist to then make appropriate suggestions so that, for therapeutic purposes, beneficial corrections can be made.

In this way, hypnosis is an effective way of making contact with our inner (subconscious) self, which is both a reservoir of unrecognised potential and knowledge as well as being the unwitting source of many of our problems.

It may be surprising to learn that we all experiences trance states on a daily basis. Even passing into ordinary sleep involves a kind of trance state. The experience of hypnosis is similar: neither asleep nor awake and a little like daydreaming, with a pleasant feeling of deep relaxation behind it all.

It is a fact that no-one can be hypnotised against their will and even when hypnotised, a person can reject any suggestion. Thus therapeutic hypnosis is a state of purposeful (confidential) co-operation.

For you information:

You remain in control at all times

You can wake up and end the session at any time

Nothing can be suggested that you don't want

You can hear what is said at all times

You may remember everything that is said

You can move around whenever you wish

Hypnosis is not the same as sleep

You have been in natural trance states many times.

Why use Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy can help you across a number of different areas in your life.  It can be rapid and is very safe. There are different areas of your life that you may want some help with:

Values – Values are unconscious & provide your motivation. We have different values in our career, relationships, family & health.   For example being free and happy are values.  Values are things you can feel and not hold.  Some clients need help prioritising getting their mojo back in these areas.

Beliefs – Beliefs are informed by your values.  Some clients may have a belief stemming from their values which leads to them believing that they need to be or behave in a certain way to achieve that value.   Some beliefs can be negative and stop you getting what you want in life e.g. ‘I am not good enough’ or ‘part of me wants this, part of me wants that’.

Skills & capabilities – Some clients want to know how to be different in certain situations e.g. be more confident in social situations, or at work, or school.

Behaviours – Whether it’s a bad habit such as biting nails or procrastination, we can work together to ensure you unconsciously learn to do something entirely different.

Hypnosis is a powerful tool that offers you the chance to create meaningful and lasting change in your life.  It is a way of taking back control that leaves you feeling empowered and renewed. You already have these resources inside of you – it’s simply a case of tapping into them.

CAN ANYONE BE HYPNOTISED?

My answer to this question would be yes.  Some people may take longer to relax because they feel uncertain, uncomfortable or even afraid of the unknown, but with skill and positive assurance anyone can be hypnotised.  Remember that hypnosis is a natural state and we all experience it, one way or another, every single day.
